The name of this film is Battleship Potempkin and it was directed by Eisenstein. This film is important because it introduces us to montage and lots of it. Eisenstein puts a bunch of mini shots together and at a specific speed to help us get the feeling of what the silent film is trying to portray. The next film is called a Trip to The Moon and that was directed by Melies. This film shows us the use of effects and how it was first used.
